Examine the event viewer for reasons the MS SQL Server engine will not start.  Two common reasons are:

  1. You changed the name of the machine.  You should restore the name to its prior setting.  Otherwise you must uninstall ServiceLedger & SQL Server and re-install.  Be sure to backup your data file.  More information is provided here:
    http://support.serviceledger.com/kb/Default.asp?ToDo=view&questId=328
  2. The account for the SQL Server is running as an account that has insufficient priveleges for the service to run.  A common solution is to run SQL Server as System or Administrator
